Police chief and cop kiss; chief quits

OK, so this was in the Canton, Ohio area. Chief Timothy Escola "retired" (after four years) from the Perry Township Police Department, after being caught kissing a part-time, 30-year-old, female officer on June 2 during a transport run to pick up a prisoner in the Cincinnati area. You can read the whole sordid story on www.cantonrep.com, if you are bored and with nothing else to do. Search for "Escola".

What's important about this in little, ol' Woodstock?

Watch for upcoming news about sexual improprieties involving certain members of the Woodstock Police Department.

Somewhere in what is probably the Code of Conduct for officers of the Department is that they will live by high standards and not take actions or be involved in matters that reflect poorly on the Department. And the supervisors are expected to set a good example for their officers.

And, if misdeeds are called to the attention of the senior command of the Department, they should act swiftly to investigate and take action that puts a stop to it. It shouldn't take years to resolve.

And so, why would a citizen's complaints get treated so lightly in a way that does not result in immediate and corrected action? Should a citizen have to complain repeatedly and finally go to the City Manager to get action?

Watch for more information on at least two different situations in the near future. Both should be issues for the Woodstock Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.
