I appreciate all the postings here (well, most of them), but I would like to request that postings be related to the topic. If you want to pontificate on some issue, suggest it to me by email and I'll provide a lead article, where you can post appropriately.
Obscene, overly-rude, inappropriate, defamatory, libelous postings will be deleted, when I find them. If you spot one before I do, please email me to review it. Email to Gus@WoodstockAdvocate.com
Thanks.

Well, some of them anyway.
Yup, guess calling public figures limp wristed isn't considered any of those. I guess gay humor must be ok in Gus's eyes. Do you like to pick on the homosexuals Gus? Is that why you let snide remarks like that go?
Or, maybe Gus has finally done some reading on holding bloggers responsible for what is said. The law suits continue to grow in this arena, ever since forums first started. Watch you wallet Gus, there is plenty here to sue about.
meh, like he has anything in his wallet
Actually, the bar was recently raised, not lowered, under new IL law. Government officials like the low-lifes on the Woodstock Council that were the subject of serious ethics allegations for screwing the citiznes or Woodstock are open game when it comes to calling them to account for their actions. Can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen....or thespianism....or Woodstock.
What ethics allegations?? I have seen nothing in any newspaper. Document some sources here, don't just give out mindless drivel. If you have something to back up an argument that is documented proof, site references and where the general public can find this for themselves. If they are low life's what does that make you? God of Woodstock, get a god damn life for Christ's sake. We have young men and women dying in Iraq and Afghanistan and you're upset because your mayor might be gay?? Honestly, the people on this site make me sick. If half of you would put as much effort into helping your fellow man as you do feeling sorry for yourselves and bitching about everything you perceive a wrong you might actually make a positive difference in this world, but instead you spend all your energy complaining about soccer moms parking illegally at Starbuck's at 10 in the morning rather than maybe taking that 4 bucks you just spent on a cup of overpriced coffee and donating the difference to the food pantry. I hope all of you are ashamed for the way you behave, because this is one of the most immoral and irrational forums of communication I have ever seen. The fact that I can only assume I share a city and a community with half of you sickens me beyond belief. Open your eyes and realize we're all human beings, not a one of us is perfect, and sitting and crying is not going to solve a god damn thing.
Ashamed, nice rant - but we could do without the potty mouth here, but here you go, it took 4 seconds to find:

Had Sager, Webster and the others not hand picked their OWN jury -- including the founder and publisher of the "Woodstock Sychophant," oops, I mean "Dependent" (for crying out loud!!) -- they would have definitely lost this case. Why the State's Attorney has chosen not to criminally prosecute these allegations is sickening and shows how connected this perverse crony county is. (Keep this in mind this next election.)
I have not read anyone on this site calling the mayor "gay" but you?? Do you have some hidden agenda?
As for all of the members-of-the-ruling-class here in town that think the law is above them, wheter it's parking, driving, political & election fraud, backroom sales of failing businesses on the taxpayers dime, friends that oversee each other on various "boards," or whatever, Gus is brave and right to hold them accountable.
Have you not heard of the Broken Window concept of law and order? Let the boyfriend of a councilman park illegally and they start to feel bullet-proof, and start doing back roon deals with D-200 to illegally campaign for outrageously higher taxes.
Nip the soccer-boyfriend when he takes the old ladies's handicapped parking spot and he might think twice about screwing over the taxpayers in corrupt backroom deals.....
Pretty simple. And it works.
As for being sickened by people that believe in basic rights, ethics, and law and order, maybe you should mount your self-righteous high horse and head over to a dictatorial state were your views are most welcome. We sure don't want to upset you any further.....
Thanks for posting the link. Did they really pick their own panel/jury to hear the case? Please be honest, this is important. Thanks.
Read the ethics complaint story from the above link. The complainant, who lives just outside Woodstock, was brave and correct to file it, and he took a lot of heat for doing so. After the complaint got handled (and "handled", it was), I addressed the City Council. My opinion was that they DID violate the ethics law. The law is clear. At the time, I also felt that, had they just 'fessed up, apologized and promised not to violate it in the future, I would have been satisfied. "Semantics"? No, I don't think so!
I'll tell you this. John Q. Public needs to get more involved in Woodstock. Show up at the City Council meetings. Attend Commission meetings. Vote in every election. More importantly, study the issues and have a clue about what your vote means.
Talk to elected officials outside of meetings. Lobby them for what you want them to do. Get a commitment from them as to what they will do. And then check up and learn whether they did what they said they would do.
"The Price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance." A wise Irish politician and judge, John Philpot Curran, said that.
Gus, I will agree with you that there is a price for freedom. Freedom is not free. As citizens it is our duty to see that our elected officials are held accountable for their actions.
Any time someone brings up politics I can't help but quote Robin Williams:
"Politicians are like diapers, they should be changed often and for the same reason."
