Beth Bentley, 41 when she vanished, has been missing for 165 weeks now. Ever since about May 23, 2010.
Picture her now, standing near the Amtrak Station in Centralia, Ill. Looking first one way, then another. Where is her ride? Where is the person she is meeting?
Was she ever there? Really ever there?
What was her week-end in Mt. Vernon like? Was she even really there?
Were the three people in Mt. Vernon who would know, ever grilled separately by police? Were their stories compared? Were they ever re-interviewed? Were the subsequent recitals of activities closely compared with the original stories? Were they interviewed by different people, who might "read" them differently?
At one point Woodstock Police detectives thought Jenn Wyatt had lied about contact with Beth on the day after she was reported missing. What were the facts with which they got the McHenry County State's Attorney to approve felony charges?
I'm not a cop nor an attorney, but I immediately believed that the charges could not be proven. And a judge later threw out the charges. I felt the only way that those charges could be proven would have been for Beth to walk into the courtroom and say, "Hi, guys. I did talk to Jenn the next day." Nobody thought that was going to happen.
The Woodstock Police have denied two FOIA requests for the reports in this case, claiming an exemption that release of information would jeopardize an active investigation.
But according to police this has never been more than a Missing Person case.
Hmmmm......

Gus, I am glad that you are following up on this case. Too bad the Northwest Herald is "too busy" to do so.
Thanks, CK. I wish I were following up on it; i.e., spending time and money to investigate Beth's last-known whereabouts.
The Woodstock PD chief reported a while back that the Saturday boat rental was confirmed and all who went out, came back (on the boat). But a local resident (there) who knew the marina operator said no boat was rented to a party including Beth.
It's hard to put all the pieces together, when the Woodstock PD denies my FOIA requests.
She was never on the boat because she was not in southern Illinois that weekend. Her life ended in Woodstock. Why is the Woodstock Police seemingly helping in the cover up of what happened to this woman? What did this woman know? To who's benefit was it to get rid of her?
The writing is on the wall, plain to see, why is no one doing anything?
Running on the theme that Beth never got out of Woodstock alive on Thursday night, May 20, 2010, what should be done?
Where was she last seen? The baseball game? The DQ? With whom did she leave the DQ? Who else was at the DQ at the same time?
Then there is 749 Tara Drive. Did the police ever search the house or the property? The owner rented the house but lived in California.
How closely did the police examine the rental car? Did they ever verify the mileage driven between Out and In? Ever check I-Pass records or missed tolls?
How closely did Woodstock Police examine Beth's car, which supposedly had been parked in the garage at 749 Tara Drive for the week-end? When it was cleaned out, what was found in it?
And if she never got to Mt. Vernon, who did the waitress at the Frosty Mug think she saw on Friday night, May 21, 2010 (who looked like Beth)?
