A reader browsing old articles posted a comment to my October 17, 2008, article entitled “The Awesome Power of DCFS”. What did he have to say?
So that his comment doesn’t go unread after being added to a three-year-old article, here it is:

“McHenry County DCFS is the MOST DISORGANIZED, UNPROTECTING & USELESS government agency. They do not protect children rather they take OVER 6 MONTHS to fill out a report & get it to a non-offending parent. Yet, had that parent known that the child's mother's boyfriend had an open investigation the father could have been able to get a temporary restraining order against the boyfriend until the investigation was complete. By the way the investigation was concluded in January as 'indicated' yet because of their disorganization & quite frankly their lack of interest in the cases they handle, the father still has NO REPORT 3 months later. They don't protect children, hell they don't even help. They are a joke. I hope that it doesn't take a child dying for them to wake up & realize they ought to adhere to why DCFS was established...best interest of the child.”

A child died in a Crystal Lake Uteg Apartment because DCFS took a month to respond to a complaint. The mother chained her daughter to a bed and a fire occurred.
That was during Jim Thompson's term.
After that incident, whenever I saw the DCFS Director after the call that resulted, he moved to the far side of the room.
No fault was ascribed to the DCFS worker who had not followed the rule and investigated within 24 hours.
Headquarters for McHenry County was in Libertyville then, I believe.
Ask Former Deputy Scott Milliman what he knows about the DCFS. Ask him about a particular case that stemmed from Marengo that tied to the Sheriff.

Bravo! Finally it is being put out there how neglect this org really is. We know of a young girl that is/was being raised by druggie/alchy parents. We sent many letters to DCFS. So did the WPD, the school principle, neighbors, friends and family members. That little girl was LEFT in the parents custody. It was only when they were evicted yet again and the so called mother did another suicide attempt that the girl is now residing with a friends parents. BUT she would still be forced into the home if/when they can find another rental. These parents buy drugs instead of food, do crack in front of the girl and god knows what else. Outrageous does not even begin to cover this case!!!!
