The headline this morning? "Robbery suspect paroled days before arrest." Was the parolee lucky or not?
The story? Leroy Delphie, 42, Chicago, "allegedly" held up a bank in Chicago and was arrested while waiting for his getaway vehicle. A security dye pack had exploded and soaked his pants with red dye, and police noticed him at a bus stop. World's smartest criminal, right?
He had been released from prison on Monday (Feb. 27) and was arrested on Friday (Mar. 2).
Why didn't the Illinois Parole Board wait another week before releasing him? Was Big Bad Leroy waiting for a bus back to Shawnee Correctional Center?
The Daily News and the Northwest Herald both liked the headline for the identical stories they ran.
