A friend sent me this link to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kfz2XDXaeqc, which is a 1969 commentary by Red Skelton on the Pledge of Allegiance. It is worth a family viewing.
If you have a child in District 200 school, ask him what happens in the classroom during the morning Pledge to Allegiance. Is the little time required to pledge one's allegiance acknowledged respectfully, or is the time disregarded in the classroom?
According to one student, many teachers don't observe the Pledge because it takes up class instructional time. This student believes that less than 25% of the students observe the Pledge. Additional comments were "It's a joke" and "They can't make us say the Pledge."
The Pledge is not even led "live"; the Pledge is canned. A recording of the Pledge of Allegiance is played on the P.A. system. Is it any wonder that it is ignored by a large number of students?
How about posting your student’s comments about the morning Pledge?
