Sharp deputy nabs trafficker

Type of vehicle stopped
Deputy Eric Woods was on patrol this week, when he spotted a traffic violation near Illinois Route 31 and Route 14 in Crystal Lake. The vehicle was a 2011 Mercedes Sprinter van.

According to a media release dated December 3, 2012, a McHenry County Sheriff's K-9 unit responded for a vehicle sniff, and the dog alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.

The vehicle was searched and a crate containing eight boxes, each containing “numerous packages of cannabis”, was found. The media release indicated that approximately 75 pounds of narcotics were recovered, having a street value of approximately $290,000. That dog must have some nose to be able to detect packages inside boxes inside a crate inside a vehicle!

Michael P. Karavastev, 38, of Sunnyvale, California, is currently residing in the McHenry County Jail on an $8,000 bond, according to the jail records on the sheriff's website

County residents should be proud of the excellent law enforcement work performed by Dep. Woods.

Woods is the deputy who was injured at the sheriff's department shooting range on March 15, 2010 in a careless range-administration accident. Glad to hear that he is okay.

Don't prop this guy up, Gus. He made a deal with the powers that be and took them off the lawsuit he filed. He received an award for another drug bust and took full credit even though DEA gave him the vehicle info. I wouldn't be surprised if that is what happened here. He is not a patrol deputy. He works in the "INTELLIGENCE" unit. They have to keep this guy happy so he doesn't turn on them. He was also brainwashed by Seipler back in the day. Now he's all better and his brain works just fine, yeah right.

Echo that....NOBODY trusts him.He is the ears for the Sheriff ,Zinke and Miller. Info gets fed to him via the intelligence unit and when the info plays out he plays the hero. He is a snake. Not so much good cop rather than good player. If he stopped the van, it was becuase someone told him to.
