Why did Philando Castile get shot in Falcon Heights, Minn. this week?
After getting stopped for a busted taillight, he reached for his pocket when he should have kept his hands in the air.
His girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, says in a video "press conference" that they were told to keep their hands in the air.
From a CNN.com article, "He let the officer know that he had a firearm and he was reaching for his wallet and the officer just shot him in his arm."
And from the same CNN.com article, "The officer still sounds distressed as he explains, 'I told him not to reach for it. I told him to get his hand off it.' "
The Minnesota crowd is already buying the rope for the cop's neck. Claims of "the cops are executing blacks" are already in the air.
The media is largely responsible to the growing gap between whites and blacks. The yellow journalism incites groups against one another.
You and I know that, if you are legally armed and so inform a cop, you had better follow the cop's instructions exactly. You do NOT reach toward your firearm unless the cop tells you to do so. If you are sitting in your car, and the firearm is on your right hip and your wallet is in your right back pocket, be very clear to explain that to the cop while both of your hands are still on the steering wheel.
The cop will tell you exactly what he wants you to do. Don't move a hair on a finger until you understand exactly what the cop wants you to do and when he wants you to do it. You might even repeat back to him what he asked you to do, and then do it very s-l-o-w-l-y.
Be smart. Stay alive.

Has the MSM shown a video that shows what happened BEFORE he was shot? I haven't seen it if they have. Imagine this and we will have to imagine because we haven't seen anything that led up to the shooting. Was the gun visible to the officer and did the deceased make a quick movement TOWARDS the gun? What happened PRIOR to the shots being fired? I/we do not know because we have not seen that portion of the video. Where was the gun? What if it was hidden underneath the deceaseds gun but the Officer saw it and the deceased made a move that appeared to the Officer to be going for the gun? Would that make it a justified shooting? Should the Officer have waited till the deceased got a good grip on it and produced the gun? Should the Officer have waited till the deceased fired a shot before he fired his gun? My point is (in a roundabout way) is that we do not know very much about this shooting or what preceeded it because the newsmedia only shows us what THEY want us to see. While on the surface this shooting APPEARS to be a bad one, is there any evidence that might make it justified? There very well could be.
Actually, to me this was not a bad shooting "on the surface". And you are exactly right. I too want to know what happened BEFORE the cop shot Castile. That's what counts, not the video after the shots.
You and I are the only ones asking "What happened BEFORE?"
The officer was distraught after shooting Castile. You can hear it. Yet he stayed in control until back-up arrived. Of course, he kept his weapon trained on Castile. He obviously had considered him a threat. Sure hope he was wearing an operating bodycam.
This shooting clearly shows the problem faced by inexperienced CWP holders who carry. They don't spend enough time thinking about officer-civilian interaction. The driver created the dangerous situation by moving when told not to.
We had a situation here in northern S.C. last year, when a trooper shot a man in a gas station parking lot. The driver was out of his vehicle. When the trooper asked for his ID, the guy dove into his truck for it (or something). When he came out, he turned away from the officer, and the trooper shot. The SC DPS quickly threw the trooper under the bus.
Gus, I just saw a report on Breibart in which it states that there was a robbery of a small store near where this shooting occurred. They have pictures of the offenders. The deceased looks like one of the offenders in that armed robbery. There is also a picture of the deceased with his right hand in between his legs after he was shot. Did the officer stop the car because he/it matched the description of the one/person wanted for the armed robbery of the small store and did the deceased make a move for that gun when he realized he was going to go to jail? Did the deceased have the gun in between his legs which is what I was getting at in my first post? This is all becoming very interesting. I predict that we will have another Michael Brown here.
Big Daddy, I saw that Breitbart report this morning. The Reynolds woman's demeanor on the video is hard to explain and accept. I don't understand how she could so calmly explain what's going on, instead of being emotionally upset at her boyfriend's gunshot wounds and unconscious state. The officer was 100X more distraught than she was.
