Funny business at the Sheriff's Department

What a joke!

The Northwest Herald reported that a MCSD deputy saw a suspicious vehicle last Thursday and the driver and passenger bailed out in a shopping center near Randall Road and County Line Road in Algonquin. The newspaper relied on a press release issued by "Sheriff Nygren".

You can actually examine that press release now at www.mchenrysheriff.org  Look under Press Release and click on Feb. 07, 2012.

Notice the wording, "Sheriff Keith Nygren announced today ..." So, if Sheriff Nygren had been in his Woodstock office (not his Minocqua, Wisc. "office" or in his Cape Coral, Fla. "office"), wouldn't he have signed the press release going out over his name? From where did he announce it? Was he in his Woodstock office on Feb. 7?

None of the three February press releases bears his signature or even the rubber stamp with the likeness of his signature. I guess "AZ" (that would be the Undersheriff, Andy Zinke) doesn't want (or isn't allowed) to hang his initials over Keith's rubberized signature, and no one else (as in, farther down the pecking order) would dare put his or her name on a press release.

But shouldn't a press release bear the name of the person responsible for wording and issuing it? Oh, there's that nasty 11-letter word: r-e-s-p-o-n-s-i-b-l-e.

Now, no one can be blamed for putting out misleading or erroneous information. "I didn't do it. My name wasn't on it."

Was the vehicle abandoned north or south of County Line Road? This is important, because County Line Road divides McHenry County from Kane County? Why isn't the shopping center named?

How about a description of the two cats who fled the vehicle? Race? Gender? Height? Weight? Clothing? Coats? Carrying anything? How many other cars pulled in with the K-9 deputy? Did the K-9 deputy know them and had he been following them for miles?

Are there warrants out now for those two? Any reason to keep the public in the dark? If their identities are known, why not publicize the names and get the public's help to collar them?

Can't wait to read the report, but this will be an "active investigation" and the report won't be available. For how long? Months? Until they think we've forgotten about it?
