Marengo - Recognize these men?

Batzler
Tarrant
Recognize either of these two men? They were arrested in Rock County, Wisconsin and charged with burglaries. Police and sheriff's departments south of the state line are scratching their heads and wondering whether they were also involved in burglaries in Boone, Winnebago, McHenry and Ogle Counties in Illinois.

Arrested were Nicholas Jay Batzler, 32, of Loves Park and James Daniel Tarrant, 43, of Rockford.

If you recognize either of these men and have information that might connect them to any crimes, contact your law enforcement agency immediately.

Reminder: Batzler and Tarrant, like any other suspects, are presumed innocent until found guilty.

I read the Rock County account which you linked to in your first posting yesterday at 4:08PM and they (ROCK CTY) clearly stated they had received the information about these subjects via Illinois. “Authorities in Illinois had a description of a silver Cavalier that was possibly involved in their burglaries.”

You like to criticize the locals especially the Sheriff, yet fail to understand that these law enforcement agencies work closely together issuing BOLO's (Be on the lookout) when they get intelligence info.

Had McHenry or Boone County caught the guys they too would have given credit to the agency that provided the BOLO information.

You are far to critical of the local PD’s. All in all they do a great job. Your bias is blinding.

Snidely, we'll just have to agree to disagree. My quarrel is with the wording by which the MCSD Sheriff attempted to claim more credit than he deserved.

Did he do anything? Is he even in town? If anyone there is doing the work, it's the deputies and the investigators, NOT the Sheriff.

Why didn't Sheriff Nygren go to Marengo and meet with the County residents there, either with or instead of the Undersheriff?

What is wrong with you, Gus? You speak of the "wording" of the press release attempting to claim more credit than is due. If Cal posted the release in its entirety I cannot fathom what on earth you're talking about. Show us!

Even when listing all the agencies who were involved - AFTER stating that Rock County made the initial arrest - the sheriff's office is the last agency mentioned. Your bias and hatred of all things Nygren is costing you: Credibility and, perhaps, sanity. Seek help!

Steve, glad to do so. Let me check the Press Releases on the MCSD website. Hmmmmm, nothing there since Sept. 6....

From the NIXLE release: "Sheriff Keith Nygren announced today the apprehension of two Rockford area men suspected in residential burglaries in the unincorporated Marengo area. ..."

They weren't apprehended by MCSD deputies.

They weren't apprehended in McHenry County.

They were apprehended because an alert resident in Rock County, Wisc. called ITS sheriff's dept.!

The press release would not say Deputy XX or Deputy YY announced. The Sheriff is the head of the agency so of course it says the Sheriff announced it.

The Press Release says in part:

"Sheriff Keith Nygren announced today the apprehension of two Rockford area men suspected in residential burglaries in the unincorporated Marengo area.

On Friday, September 2nd in the afternoon hours, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office (WI) stopped a suspicious vehicle that was occupied by James Tarrant and Nicholas Batzler.

Further investigation revealed that four residential burglaries were committed in Rock County, and the vehicle contained proceeds from the burglaries including televisions, guns and pillow cases."

It seems apparent that "credit' was given first to Rock County and say that Sheriff Keith Nygren 'ANNOUNCED" is proper. He is not taking credit. You are just looking for anything to find fault. Yes the Rock county deputy did a nice job and should be commended, but why not celebrate the arrest for what it is; TEAMWORK. All the departments were looking for that car. Rock County did a nice job and I applaud them.

Gus said...

Concerned, I wonder if you might be confusing "teamwork" with "benefit."

Teamwork (with MCSD) didn't produce the arrests in Rock County, Wisc. At least, not in connection with McHenry County burglaries.

Don't forget it took citizen action and some loud voices in McHenry County to even get attention called to the McHenry County burglaries.

Do you think that the MCSO would ignore burglaries? (Apparently yes ) Do you think that they only work cases that have public attention? ( Apparently yes) You are so wrong Gus. Just because the police departments don't appease your large ego by keeping you personally informed, they none-the-less, work diligently on every case.

Police departments typically don't announce all leads in the press and yes they share the information learned with other departments to collaborate on apprehensions.

Other people have hit the nail on the head that you are biased against the local Police especially the Sheriff.

Advocate means to be for something. , to promote or support. You only belittle and criticize

Thanks for your comment, Tyler. Perhaps you might want to spend some time in unincorporated McHenry County near Marengo and get opinions from the residents there.

I have been advocating for those who needed to be heard. I'm not biased against ALL local police or deputies.

Against the Sheriff? You bet. And he deserves it. If he hadn't pulled that stupid stunt in the Jewel-Osco parking lot, I'd leave all this on a professional level. And, if he spent more time in his office and less time in Minocqua or Cape Coral for his $150,000/year, I might back off.

Then address the Sheriff issues directly and complement the men and women that work so hard everyday and never even interact with the Sheriff.

Remember that he is an ELECTED Sheriff and politicians come and go. The deputies make careers out of their professions and only the Sheriff and Undersheriff play the politics of publicity. Your endless attacks at everything they do are unwarranted.

It must be terrible living such a negative existence.

Gus said...

How nice it would be if politicians did come and go. Unfortunately, once they get hold of the office, they don't "go".

One of the things that I said I'd do, had I be elected Sheriff, was to put the names and faces of the deputies actually doing the work of the sheriff's department out front and center. In other words, give THEM credit for the job they do.
