What is "officer-created jeopardy"?

Police have dangerous jobs. There is no doubt about that. They are expected to make decisions, often with very little thinking time.

This is why training is so important.

In November 2012 a drunk driver was shot and killed by a Palm Springs (Calif.) police officer. Two officers were involved and were cleared.

The article below follows an investigation that revealed one of the officers escalated the situation, and his partner opened fire on the driver. For the details, read the article.

This would make a good case study for all police departments.

It was stupid to jump into the car. But I'm not going to lose much sleep over the death of a drunk driver trying to escape or defeat an arrest. Who knows how many lives the Officers saved by ending it right there.
