Smoking prohibited on the Square Sidewalks?

Does the new Smoke-Free Illinois law effectively prohibit smoking on the sidewalks of the Woodstock Square? And on sidewalks in commercial districts of every other Illinois community and city?

The new law, which goes into effect on January 1, 2008, prohibits smoking in public places. Included in the definition of “Public Place” is “...that portion of any building...including a minimum distance...of 15 feet from entrances, exits...”

So, if you are on the sidewalk of the Square and within 15 feet of an entrance to any building or store, can you be smoking? The answer is clear. You cannot.

Will this mean that a semi-circle of smokers, standing 15’ 1” from the entrance to a store, office or building, will create a smoky barrier through which people must pass to enter or leave? Or just to use the sidewalk itself?

I WILL SMOKE, TRY AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. ITS MY RIGHT AND MY BODY!
IF YOU DONT LIKE IT STAY HOME AND LIVE A SHELTERED LIFE. OR ARE YOU GOING TO RAT PEOPLE OUT, IT AMAZES ME THAT SMOKING A LEGAL PRODUCT GETS MORE NEGATIVE PUBLICITY THAN BOOZE THAT KILLS MORE PEOPLE, CAUSES MORE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE,AND MORE HEALTH PROBLEMS. GUS PLEASE DO EVERYONE IN WOODSTOCK A FAVOR, JUST SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who could possibly turn down a challenge like that (above)? Come January 1, if you are smoking in a public place, it'll cost you $100.00. And the second cigarette might just cost you $250.00 more. You can smoke wherever you want, just so long as it is not in a public place, as defined in the new law.
So step right up. Be the first in Woodstock to be cited. And be proud of it. You might even want to light up in front of the judge. After all, you say it's your right. So light up.
