The Chicago Tribune says mayor Emanuel said, "gun laws must reflect the values of the people."
No, you jerk.
Let me tell you what will stop the violence in Chicago in one week.
Start with the worst block in Chicago. Allow law-abiding citizens to patrol the streets and support the cops. Let the citizens - white, black, brown, yellow, red - carry their firearms concealed and openly. Line up your idiot Illinois Democratic Representatives and Senators and tell them that the violence must be gotten under control. Admit that you can't do it and that your police chief and the Chicago Police officers cannot do it.
Let half a dozen armed men stand in mid-block and another half a dozen at each end of the block. When the shooters drive by, let everybody unload on them.
Know how long it will take for word to get around Chicago that it's no longer safe to do drive-by shootings? About 48 hours.
For the slow learners, it will take a couple of more days.
I am sick of reading about the men, women and children being slaughtered in Chicago. And the Tribune wants me to pay to read most of its crime articles. Sorry, not worth it. The Tribune should make the crime articles free to read.

You are wrong Gus. The men and women of the Chicago Police Department can do it. They HAVE been doing it. For years now. They have recovered record amount of guns from people carrying them illegally. And I'm not talking about guys like you or me. Recovered from gangsters. But they can't do it alone. They can't succeed when you have a criminal justice system that bends over backwards to please the criminal element. They can't do it alone when the States Attorney refuses to prosecute people on gun charges or any other charge for that matter. They can't succeed when you have judges that will look for the slightest little reason for not finding an obvious criminal guilty or on those rare occasions when they do find someone guilty, for not giving that criminal a heavy sentence. They can't succeed when you have a States Attorney run for re-election based on a platform not of prosecuting CRIMINALS but instead the occasional policeman that goes bad. They can't succeed when you have a joke of a sheriff (Tom Dart) who does everything he can to keep his jail free of criminals and lies to the public about what is really going on. They can't succeed when the President of the Cook County Board says that there are too many brown or black people in jail while ignoring the FACT that brown and black people are responsible for the vast majority of violent crime in this country. They can't succeed when the Mayor of Chicago panders to the criminal element and actually advocates for the importation of more criminals from the Middle East. They cannot succeed when the entire criminal justice and political structure in the City of Chicago, Cook County and the State of Illinois is controlled by a leftist,anti-American political party that is committed to the destruction of the quality of life for tax paying,middle class working citizens while at the same time forgiving those that are a tremendous burden and offer nothing to society.

Your scheme would probably work but no politician in the state would go on record as advocating it to solve the problem. Crimes committed with guns should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, both local and state, and when appropriate federal. Send the perps to jail for many, many years. When they do come out and if they commit a crime with a gun ... send them to a life term without parole and at hard labor.
